Prime Minister Tarique Rahman announced that honesty, merit, and efficiency will be the core principles for posting and transferring in public administration. He stated that Deputy Commissioners (DCs) must always be prepared to carry out their duties anywhere in the country.

He made these remarks while addressing as the chief guest at the inaugural session of the Deputy Commissioners’ Conference on Sunday (May 3) morning at Osmani Memorial Auditorium in the capital.

The Prime Minister stated that every position in public administration is extremely important. Therefore, officials must have the mental preparedness to serve anywhere in the country. He further added that just as a government is not permanent, no position in public administration is permanent either.

Highlighting the country’s current economic and social situation, he mentioned that poverty and unemployment have increased, and some institutions have been damaged. However, the government is seeking solutions to alleviate public suffering.

Reiterating the commitment to build a just state, the Prime Minister said that the promises declared in the election manifesto and the July Charter would be implemented gradually.

Addressing the DCs, he also instructed that caution must be exercised in electricity consumption at markets and shopping malls after 7 PM, and surveillance in this regard must be increased.

Earlier in the morning, he walked from his office at the Secretariat to the conference venue at Osmani Memorial Auditorium. On both sides of the road, general people greeted him, and he responded to the greetings by waving his hand.

According to sources from the Cabinet Division, activities of various ministries, including the Prime Minister’s Office, were discussed on the first day of the conference. Later, the DCs paid a courtesy call on the President at Bangabhaban.

On the second day of the conference, discussions are scheduled to cover finance, health, education, and other ministries. On the third day, various topics, including power, energy, armed forces, and the Election Commission, will be discussed.

On the last day of the conference, important issues, including the Ministry of Home Affairs and Public Administration, will be discussed. That evening, a meeting and dinner with the organization of administration cadre officers are arranged for the Prime Minister.
