Police have arrested two individuals in connection with the gruesome murder of five members of the same family, including a tenant’s wife and three children, in Kapasia, Gazipur.

Gazipur Superintendent of Police Md. Sharif Uddin confirmed the matter on Saturday (May 9) afternoon. The bodies were recovered on the same day from the house of expatriate Monir Hossain in Rautkona village of the Upazila. They were murdered on Friday (May 8) night.

Police stated that two individuals involved in the car business of the suspected killer, the absconding Forkan Mia, have been detained for questioning. The police have not disclosed the names of those arrested.

The victims include Sharmin (30), wife of the suspected private car driver and absconding husband Forkan Mia; their elder daughter Mim (15); daughter Maria (8); daughter Fariha (2); and Sharmin’s younger brother Rasul Mia (22).

Eyewitnesses described the scene as extremely horrific. The three children’s throats were slit, and their bodies lay side-by-side on the floor. Sharmin’s brother Rasul’s body was found on the bed. Sharmin’s lifeless body, with her hands and mouth bound, was discovered near the window.

According to police and local sources, Forkan Mia lived with his family as a tenant in the house of expatriate Monir Hossain. The entire family was seen normally on Friday night. However, on Saturday morning, locals discovered the five brutally murdered bodies and immediately informed the police.

Neighbors stated that Forkan and his wife frequently had domestic disputes. It is suspected that he murdered his wife, three children, and brother-in-law following these disputes before fleeing.

Kapasia Police Station OC Shahinur Alam said that Forkan Mia had rented the house approximately one year ago. Preliminary investigation suggests that Forkan Mia himself committed the murders due to family disputes and then absconded.

Gazipur District Police Additional Superintendent (Crime) Ashfaq Uzzaman stated that the process of sending the bodies for post-mortem examination to Gazipur Shaheed Tajuddin Ahmad Medical College Hospital morgue is underway. Preparations for filing a case are in progress, and multiple police teams have already launched operations to apprehend the accused Forkan Mia.
